Professional info
My professional experience has given me the opportunity to connect with students and adults in an authentic and meaningful way. I continually seek out leadership and additional education opportunities. Below is an overview of my last few years. Please feel free to download my full resume.
Work experience
Bradford Preparatory School - Upper School Teacher
2016-Present
In an effort to work closer to my home in Concord, I made the bittersweet decision to leave my post at Independence High School and return to my true passion of teaching in the classroom. I am currently teaching both regular and honors level Civics and Economics, High School Dance and High School Chorus classes. I have also taken on the role of dual enrollment liaison for our students and am currently directing and choreographing the school spring musical, "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown."
Academy of Engineering - Director
Independence High School
2013 - 2016
I have successfully launched a new National Academy Foundation Academy of Engineering at Independence High School. I am most proud of my advisory board recruitment that is comprised of 85 percent industry professionals. I recruited more than 70 students for our inaugural year! I regularly met with these students and their teachers to ensure that they are provided with future career exploration activities that match their interests and skills. In this role, I also serve as a member of the instructional leadership team, PLC data coaching team and public relations contact for the entire school.
Career Development Coordinator
Independence High School
2012-2013
Creating a college and career culture was my task as CDC at Independence High School. During my short time in this role, I successfully mentored over 50 students through dual enrollment at CPCC, secured internships for students, administered interest inventories, coordinated on-site college and career fairs, secured classroom speakers and group job shadowing opportunities and helped hundreds of students navigate through the college application process. I was also the acting Academy of Engineering Director during this time. Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools created the Academy position as a separate job title the following year and I chose to stay as the Academy Director in an effort to further enhance my leadership skills.
Marketing Teacher - Lead DECA Advisor
Independence High School
2010 - 2013
I was a very successful classroom teacher at Independence High School, having taught Marketing, Fashion Merchandising, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, and Hospitality and Tourism. Under my instruction, my students consistently scored above average on state VOCATS exams. I was also the lead DECA advisor where I increased membership by 35 percent and successfully organized a number of community service events.
Intune School of the Arts - Executive/ Creative Director
2007 - present
I am the co-founder of Intune School of the Arts and still serve as the creative and marketing director for their children's program. In this role, I created and implemented the business and marketing plan, trained and supervised all staff, developed age appropriate curriculum, increased revenue by 50 percent, coordinated the "Go Green" project, and also artistically directed more than a dozen shows. It is truly a passion of mine to use my theatrical and teaching skills to pour into the creative lives of children.

University of North Carolina - Charlotte
2003-2006
I went back to school to earn my BSBA in Marketing. I not only graduated Cum Laude, but I did this as a married woman, with a job and two pregnancies. One of my most proud moments to date. This life experience helps me relate to others seeking to further their education in a non-traditional way.
Evangel University - Springfield, MO
1992-1994
Although I did not graduate with my bachelor's degree until much later in life, my first college experience as a young seventeen-year-old girl was a positive one. At Evangel I was a double major in Music Performance and Journalism. I was a member of their critically acclaimed Concert Choir, host of my own music television show and also a member and team chaplain of the varsity cheerleading squad. My decision to leave to pursue other opportunities is not one that I regret. I had the opportunity to pursue my passion and travel the world doing so. My time at Evangel was not wasted, however. I learned more about myself personally and spiritually and subsequently became a much more mature and grounded individual.
